The Art of Thriving: Acknowledging Your Right to Fly

living a thriving artistic life
To thrive: verb. to grow or develop well or vigorously: the Artist thrived while creating. To prosper; flourish, be fortunate or successful: Artists thrive in a commercial atmosphere rich in culture and the arts. [as adj.] (thriving) a thriving Artist (oxford American dictionary)

You are amazing. You brighten the day with your thoughts. You hear songs in the wind and see masterpieces under your eyelids. You have a song on your lips and an adventure in your heart. You see magic in a waterfall, beauty in a blade of grass, and hope in a blank canvas or unshaped ball of clay.

Don't hide this remarkable person away behind your fears and beliefs. You have the right to be carefree, happy, and empowered. You don't have to let your fears crush your wings and bind you to the ground. You can create art and inspire others, and support yourself while doing it.

You have a purpose in life – to bring forward your gifts and offer them to the world. Through your art, you will open the hearts of people, so do not close your own heart – be who you are and set yourself free! When you embrace and celebrate yourself and your own creativity, you extend a silent invitation to others to follow.

You are unique and your fingerprint proves it.

You can build an abundant career as a thriving artist, because you have a right to fly.

If you long to create, to devote your very existence to art, then do it now. The only cure for the artist is to create.

Denying who you are, suppressing the needs of your spirit by withholding creativity, creation, will cause yourself to suffer in vain.

Acknowledge your ability to thrive – your right to be happy and fulfilled. It is as simple as recognizing a need and fulfilling that need to live a thriving life.

Write the word "Thriving" on a piece of paper, and write these questions out, in your own handwriting. Set a timer for three minutes and write - non-stop. Answer each from the heart, listening to your inner voice, as best you can:

1. What does thriving mean to my spirit?
2. What does thriving mean to my ego?
3. Name three differences you notice between the two.

It is important to recognize the difference between each, for one feeds your spirit with an abundance of strength, inspiration and courage while the other supports you in tending to the daily tasks and actions needed to create the life and business you desire.

The goal here is cooperation.

I'll talk about when that cooperation is at odds, what it looks like when the ego is in shadow as an egomaniac and when the spirit becomes trapped in the woo-woo realm, at another time. Here we're talking about a healthy partnership.

Learning to recognize the needs of spirit and ego and then begin to choose to create actions in which they both work in unison creates harmony: the spirit drives while the ego supports the everyday experience into form. Align the two, and you'll experience the magic of thriving.

"Thriving means being connected with your creativity; being in alignment with your true, authentic self; knowing your unique gifts and being able to share them with the world. It means being empowered to make the kind of impact you yearn for. It means tapping into the source of your energy and power, and channelling it to accomplish your deepest desires." Melissa Dinwiddie.

I am living proof that when you invite the Muse into you heart, when you embrace your true creative spirit, and share your gifts with the world, you will never be a starving artist again – on or off the page. Embracing inspiration and creating art literally saved my life. As Artists we're abundant in ideas, wild with imagination, innovated with color and line and form - why not begin to take those skills, that talent and hone it into everyday life, into prosperity, an abundant "I can" mind-set, colorful opportunities that allow us to share our gifts with the world.

"Your [art] is not simply for your benefit - that is to make you appear magnificent to the world - but rather to touch the world in a magnificent way." ~ Celestina

Over the next few weeks, I want to talk about becoming a thriving artist – how to let go of the fears and replace the starving artist mentality with the thriving artist mentality – a way to live and create abundance in your life, to give you the freedom to pursue your dreams.

What does Thriving mean to you? What word would you choose, if you could only choose one, besides money, to claim or describe what thriving means to your spirit? What have you discovered about your creative spirit? I'd love you to share in the comments below, or share this post on Twitter or Facebook.
