A Heartfelt Thank You To Art

Thank You note to Art, for crescendoh’s Art Saves feature

Art is what comes out of each of us, as we use our diverse spectrum of talent to elevate and beautify our lives. Art can be a quilt ... a collage ... a rubber stamped card ... a poem ... a musical performance ... a well-loved garden ... a delicious meal ... a warm conversation. Art is what gets us through the moment, the hour, the day, the years, the lifetime. Yes indeed, ART SAVES.” Jenny Doh

I am in awe of Art.

Art possesses an unconditional love. It is true love that awakens the spirit. It gives the gift of liberation and freedom to believe in your self. I believe this love is sacred and those who experience it are unique and lucky.

Love liberates.

Art Saves.

YES. I believe handmade heals too - not only yourself but also others.

When we artists create, we disappear into that magical realm where worries, fear, or life for that matter - simply fade. What remains is pure presence – magic.

While dwelling within the magic of creation we want for nothing, often times paying no mind to thirst, worry or earthly concerns like bills or fears of sharing our light in the world and how it’s to be expressed.

That’s magical don’t you think?
I do.

Though we may be inspired as Artists to create Art, we do not have to create. We can use our free will to create - no - to create nothing. It’s painful to live that no, to deny who we are, to refuse our spirit, but it is a choice some Artists painfully live.

There is nothing more painful than living with the death of your self, living with an embodied spirit that lay suppressed, rejected, hidden and persistently denied emergence, it’s an act of destruction.

I lived that pain. It was a self-destructive time, a time I cursed, abandoned, ridiculed and was reticent towards Art. Then after years of suffering, I surrendered to this truth:

The cure is to create. Art is the only medicine that can cure the Artist.

When I finally embraced Art, I was saved.

Do you need to embrace Art? Does Art free your spirit? Has Art touched or comforted your heart?

It has mine. That’s why I was inspired to write a thank you letter to Art. Yep, an actual thank you letter and I’m grateful to Jenny Doh of Crescendoh.com for sharing it with her Art Saves readers.

Art is most definitely magical. I loose all track of time when I'm creating. I never have any predetermined goal in mind, but by creating, layer, by layer something amazing emerges.

Hello Kathryn of Dyche Designs! How true, Art is magical! Ah, yes the disappearance into the Muse when creating art - love it! Thrilled that you commented about that because you're right, each time that happens - something amazing does emerge! I think during that time it's so magical because we're in perfect alignment with our true spirit - can't think of anything more magical than that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and stopping by! All My Best, stephey

P.S. I love your photography, especially the image of the crow. wow!

Flow (that magical disappearance) is such an important part of life. I love creating more flow in my life -- whether by writing or photoing or dancing or even by mindfully doing the dishes. I love how that is available to us in every moment (even the moments that are the hardest) if we *simply* choose it. (And as the asterisks imply, it isn't simple at all. But it is necessary.)

Hi Alexis!
Love that you're bringing choice to the party! How true, it is a choice to choose flow, joy or the act of creating Art for that matter. These are choices available to the Artist at all times and just because we choose once doesn't mean we're bliss filled for eternity. It means we get to choose again and again and again.

Exercising these types of choices is a life process an Artist must enter and practice consistently in order to manage the highs and lows of life. It isn't simple, as you stated but necessary in order to be in alignment with our spirit and experience that flow, experience fulfillment.

These are the topics I've been supporting my clients with lately in gaining freedom and space to be, seems to be a theme with everyone the past few weeks, like a universal thang. I believe that's why it's so important to have a community to plug into for support so we can see the forest for the trees when that dip hits. It's a lie to think only Artists experience this, everyone does, it's life. It's just that we Artists tend to express it when others hold it in and therefore get a bed wrap of being moody.

Best to you!

Exactly, Stephey!!!! We are no different than other humans, but we share our inner lives (perhaps) more freely and thus that myth was born.

And community... yes, oh my goodness, yes, that's a HUGE important thing!

I am very much connected to my creative self, which is so much a part of who I truly am. From my troubled childhood I found refuge in creating. I learned to put the broken pieces of my soul together in my art. I picked up a camera one day and discovered that I could see the world through different eyes. To be able to view life outside of the home that I so dreaded. Everyday I thank God for giving me the gift to create. It mended my sanity and kept me alive.

Hello! Theresa
Spoken like a true Artist! Being connected to our creative self is key, in being able to heal and ultimately transcend pain of the past, so we can can thrive in the present.

I too am thankful for your gift to create and how it's brought you here, sharing your insights and gratitude = priceless!

All My Best,
stephey

Alexis your spot on! Since we Artists express more than others to the outside I think that is exactly what started the myth.

You know, feelings can sometimes be scary and most people don't want to feel but the three, Happiness, Joy, Serenity, the others are on the 'Do Not Feel' list. My clients have expressed fear in truly expressing their anger towards trauma, fearing once they do it will make them "out of control" or "they'll never come back" or be "there forever." This is true but in the way they think, they'll never come back to center, to self, to their spirit if they don't UN-Suppress themselves. Art so allows for that unwinding to take place.

This is one of the first things I address when working with a client, supporting the ability to create a space to "feel." Art makes for a safe space to get honest about where we are and until we can do that we cannot move into the space of feeling safe to even create our dreams come true.

Poetry, words, writing is the key to becoming free and the act of writing actually has the power to ground us and change our brain chemistry — it's an act of de-stressing the body, mind and emotions. And for those who can write, literally, it can be done with only two things, a pen and piece of paper.
Love your writing by the way! Totally has the power of healing infused in each word and that's magical!

I'm so empowered by this post and the comments that follow, as well as the other links artist's blogs.

I was able to share your message with a dear friend who is also an artist, and her words to me were, "Thank you, this has set me free!" She needed to hear again that art heals, even though she knows it deep in her heart.

The lesson here for me, and for my friend, is that it is so critical to have a community of friends who also value art, who honor it and listen to it, and yes, even tell it thank you. My friend and I have spent several afternoons painting together, with deep conversations and lots of messy fun.

I have found that "flow" happening more when we are creating together. Maybe it's because we have given ourselves permission, have been intentional about the time and space, and we want so much to create. We have to create.

i can't begin to express how touched i am by your comment. thank you for taking the time out to share. so thrilled that you feel empowered by the post and everyone else's voice as well. i am determined for this space to support Artists in being who they are and living the very life that allows for us Artists to be free in mind, body and spirit. Art does heal - especially for the Artist because Art is the only thing that can heal the Artist - we need to create, it's wrapped up in our well being. To think any differently is like saying a bird "doesn't HAVE TO fly" though it has wings. I mean, they have legs and can hop around, how important is flight anyway? To me denying the bird flight, clipping it's wings, it to deny its self its very essence and there is nothing more painful than that. It's the same for Artists, we need to create in order to be FREE!

I love that you and your friend share the space of creativity together and from that magical things happen, true support is a healing in and of itself. Here's to creative freedom and being in the flow! Please know I am very grateful to you for sharing your thoughts and adding your voice to the comments here and in your awesome post! Have an inspiring day!

All My Best,
stephey
